About Generations 4 Change

Deborah Butler

My name is Deborah Butler, and I am the co-founder of Generations 4 Change, an organization committed to investing in young Native American leaders to spark culturally grounded community change. I am a proud member of the Navajo Nation from Crownpoint, New Mexico, and currently reside in Chandler, Arizona. I proudly represent both my Navajo (Diné) and African American (Naahilii) heritage.

In May 2005, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. I currently serve as a Case Manager for the Journey to Recovery program for the Salt River Pima Indian Community, where I support individuals navigating recovery by providing advocacy, coordination of services, and culturally responsive case management.

My passion for this work is deeply personal. I grew up witnessing the impacts of alcoholism and domestic violence within my household experiences that profoundly shaped my path and purpose. These early experiences instilled in me a strong belief in healing, resilience, and the power of community support. They continue to drive my commitment to helping others break cycles of generational trauma.

My ultimate goal is to expand access to culturally responsive mental health and recovery services while helping strengthen Native communities through connection, accountability, and empowerment. Through Generations 4 Change, I strive to create safe, affirming spaces where individuals, especially Native youth, feel seen, heard, and supported as they step into their leadership and healing journeys by way of finding what their "medicine" is for them.
