About Generations 4 Change

Deborah Butler

My name is Deborah Butler, and I am the co-founder of Generations 4 Change, an organization committed to investing in young Native American leaders to spark culturally based community change. I am a proud member of the Navajo Nation from Crownpoint, New Mexico, and currently reside in Chandler, Arizona. I proudly represent both my Navajo (Diné) and African American (Naahilii) heritage.

In May 2005, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. Today, I serve as a Youth Development Specialist for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, where I have the privilege of working closely with Native youth.

My passion for this work is deeply personal. I grew up witnessing the effects of alcoholism and domestic violence in my household—experiences that have shaped my path and inspired my mission. I believe in the power of healing, resilience, and community, and I’ve dedicated my life to helping others, especially Native youth, break cycles of generational trauma.

My ultimate goal is to provide culturally responsive mental health services and help bring Native communities together in strength and unity. Through Generations 4 Change, I strive to create spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and empowered to lead.
