My Medicine Program Introduction & Description
My Medicine is a trauma-informed, culturally grounded community outreach initiative rooted in Indigenous worldviews and inclusive practices. The program is designed to serve youth in group homes and foster care, youth in the broader community, as well as women and families. At its core, My Medicine creates opportunities for participants to explore and define what “medicine” means to them—what heals, inspires, and strengthens their spirit—through intentional cultural connection and holistic activities.
Our approach blends Indigenous traditions with modern methods, offering a unique mixed-methods model. We integrate Indigenous activities such as storytelling, traditional dance, beading, talking circles, and foodways alongside modern practices like entrepreneurship, leadership development, wellness workshops, and expressive arts. Every activity is grounded in Indigenous worldview, ensuring that even contemporary practices are approached through a cultural lens of identity, community, and healing.
Program offerings include art, music, movement, nature-based learning, cultural workshops, and life skills training—all designed to foster resilience, leadership, and personal growth.
Through this interweaving of Indigenous and modern approaches, My Medicine nurtures healing, empowerment, and connection for youth, women, and families, building pathways of resilience that extend across generations. It creates space to identify ways of "medicine" within self and community as coping skills in a preventative care way to mental and behavioral health.
