My Medicine is a trauma-informed, culturally based community outreach initiative designed to engage youth in group homes and under-resourced communities. The program invites participants to explore and define what “medicine” means to them—what heals, inspires, and strengthens them—through culturally rich experiences and expressive activities.
Activities such as art, music, dance, storytelling, nature-based learning, cultural workshops, and entrepreneurship build leadership skills, life skills, and emotional resilience. A newly integrated component includes youth-led talking circles, which will be used to gather feedback and reflections throughout the program. These intentional circles create space for youth voice and leadership, guiding the direction, tone, and relevance of the program.
Everyone's medicine may look different; therefore, our team members host a variety of community events to support community in finding what their medicine might be.
Our talking & healing circles provide safe spaces for our participants to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with the understanding that their vulnerability is safe with everyone in the circle.
Sobriety support services provide individuals with the tools, guidance, and community needed to maintain a substance-free lifestyle. These services may include peer support, counseling, wellness activities, and access to culturally relevant resources that promote long-term recovery. By focusing on healing, resilience, and connection, sobriety support services empower individuals to build healthy, balanced lives free from substance use.
Trauma-informed services recognize that many individuals have experienced trauma and that those experiences can deeply impact their health, behavior, and well-being. This approach creates a safe, supportive environment by focusing on trust, empowerment, and understanding. Instead of asking “What’s wrong with you?”, trauma-informed care asks “What happened to you?”, promoting healing through compassion, respect, and a commitment to long-term wellness.
Culturally based services honor and incorporate the values, beliefs, and traditions of the communities they serve. These services recognize that culture plays a vital role in healing and wellness, and they are designed to be respectful, inclusive, and responsive to diverse cultural identities. By integrating cultural practices and perspectives into care, these services help build trust, strengthen connection, and support more meaningful, effective outcomes.
